Speaking on the Footballer’s Football Podcast, Michail Antonio has been discussing West Ham’s recent performances and the fact that the squad were booed off the pitch at the weekend, writes the HITC.
To put it bluntly, the Hammers haven’t been up to speed this season. They sit 15th in the Premier League table after 14 games, and they’re just two points above the relegation zone.
After two years of brilliant performances, West Ham fans have grown to expect better from their team, and after another pour performance at the weekend, the fans made their voices heard.
Indeed, the supporters at the London Stadium booed their team off the pitch, and Antonio says that while the booing isn’t nice, he understands why fans are disappointed.
The West Ham striker spoke about the fan reaction at the weekend.
“I understand the frustration after the past two years with how we’ve been performing. We’ve not been in this situation for a long time. I remember when we were in this situation back in the day, fans do boo, they expect better and they demand better. They are disappointed and we didn’t turn up,” Antonio said.
“We’re not surprised by it, it’s not new for me and it’s not new for West Ham either. Being booed off is not nice, but when it happens it hits you that they expect better from us, so this year being not far off relegation you have to accept the boos and the disappointment from the fans.”
