Everton have been urged to cash in on their 21-year-old star Anthony Gordon should they receive a “decent” offer, according to pundit Gabby Agbonlahor, writes the FTT.
Having burst onto the scene with Everton, Gordon has endured steady progression, particularly across the last season and a bit.
Last term, the England under-21 star bagged four goals and two assists from 35 games for Everton to register himself as the fourth-highest scorer in the Premier League.
This season, Gordon sits as the Toffees’ top scorer, though that has not too difficult to achieve for a side who rank as the joint-second-lowest scorers in the league. Of those 11 goals scored in the Premier League, Gordon has scored three.
According to talkSPORT pundit Agbonlahor, Everton should look to cash in on Gordon if a “decent” offer comes to fruition.
The former Aston Villa star’s claim comes in wake of Gordon’s links to Tottenham Hotspur, who are said to be monitoring him.
On those links, Agbonlahor told Football Insider: “If Spurs are interested in Anthony Gordon, I would definitely sell him.
“I feel like he hasn’t done anything really since he got linked with a move to Chelsea.
“Lampard’s been playing him from the bench in the last few games. That’s strange with the quality that he’s got.
“He’s not been putting in the performances. Did the big-money transfer links get to his head? There are questions to be asked there.
“He needs to sort himself out because clubs might be interested but they might not if they see your performances can drop so easily.
“I think if Everton can get a decent amount, they would sell him.”
Considering Everton’s troubles up-top, they would benefit from cashing in on Gordon and investing in a creative midfield outlet and a direct wide-man.
The Toffees have created 18 chances and rank as the seventh-worst in this aspect, though it is worth noting that they have underachieved in terms of their Expected Goals [xG] tally which is down to their total of 16 big chances missed.
