’18 goals this season’ – West Ham interested in move for £20m-rated striker from Championship side

According to The Sun, West Ham is reportedly interested in signing Coventry’s striker Viktor Gyokeres during the upcoming summer transfer window, relays the Daily Mail.

The Hammers are in search of a new striker, given the uncertainty surrounding Michail Antonio’s future at the club. David Moyes recently watched the £20 million-rated Sweden international, who has been in excellent form this season, scoring 18 goals in 38 Championship appearances for Coventry. Additionally, Moyes is looking to add more competition upfront, as Gianluca Scamacca, who was signed from Sassuolo, has failed to make a significant impact so far.

Gyokeres has netted two times in 12 games for the Swedish national team, and a potential move to the Premier League could enhance his prospects of making a significant impact for his country. However, West Ham’s place in the top-flight for the upcoming season is uncertain as they are presently in the relegation zone.

Despite being a Brighton player from 2018 to 2021, the striker failed to make a Premier League appearance for the club and was loaned out on multiple occasions. In the opening qualifier of Euro 2024, he featured for 26 minutes in Sweden’s 3-0 loss to Belgium. With a mere 24 league goals scored so far this season, West Ham is in dire need of finding the net more often.
