West Ham United look set to be planning life without captain Declan Rice next season as a key source within the club has ramped up speculation of his exit, according to Claret and Hugh, informs the WestHamZone.
Rice made comments during an England press conference on December 1 2022 about his ambitions that he may want to play in the UEFA Champions League.
Now, the key source has confessed to Claret and Hugh that the “truth is” that West Ham United are preparing for Rice to leave the London Stadium this summer.
“The truth is we expect things to happen as far as Declan is concerned in the summer – sad though that may be,” said the key source as quoted by Claret and Hugh.
With the club hovering above the relegation zone, it seems likely that Rice will move on this summer as it’s unlikely the Hammer will be able to provide him with Champions League football.
Rice’s departure seems unpreventable at the moment and despite the player never fully saying his exit is on the cards, it’s easy to read between the lines.
And it’s completely fair enough, Rice has probably stayed at the club far longer than anyone expected and has been a terrific servant to the Hammers.
It’s only fair to him and his career that he wants to play in football’s very best competitions, if the Irons can’t provide the midfielder with this, then he has the right to leave.
The club must now prepare for his exit and hopefully, they have a sufficient and capable maestro lined up to replace him if he leaves the team.
Fortunately, the Hammers will receive a hefty transfer fee for Rice and this can be put towards a talented replacement, there are plenty of options on the market right now.
The club’s hierarchy needs to be wise with this cash influx though, the tale of football clubs wasting big fees they’ve received from star players has been told far too many times.
