Ex-Everton man and Sky Sports pundit Kevin Campbell has stated to Goodison News that Everton owner Farhad Moshiri’s ‘priority’ should be to back Frank Lampard, writes the TIF.
Lampard was appointed at the end of January following the sacking of Rafael Benitez. He managed to steer the Toffees clear of the drop last season. They finished 16th, four points clear of the bottom three.
This season, Everton once again find themselves flirting with relegation. The Toffees are 17th in the league and only one point above the relegation zone.
Campbell backs Lampard to be a success at the club, but he needs to be fully backed financially by the owner.
He said: “Frank Lampard proved he can get the job done in difficult circumstances last season.
“He’s not really been backed fully, so he’s got to shape the squad how he wants it.
“That’s the next priority really.
“Again, hiring and firing, everybody’s got an opinion and a manager who they think should take over.
“But a lot of them aren’t realistic because there’s a current manager in who gets the club, who’s never had a chance to shape it.
“So I think Moshiri’s right [to stick with Lampard], whether he’s going to be owner moving forward or not, that’s not the point.
“The point is having a manager with some continuity in the football club, that’s really important.”
