Pundit Paul Merson has lavished praise on Croatia defender Josko Gvardiol who is attracting interest from clubs including Tottenham, writes the TBR.
RB Leizpig defender Gvardiol has been part of the Croatia backline which has got to the quarter-finals of the World Cup.
They will face Brazil this afternoon for a place in the last four of the tournament after going all the way to the final last time around.
Gvardiol was not part of the setup at that point but has added his considerable quality to proceedings this time around and attracted praise from Merson.
Speaking to SportsKeeda, he said: “Croatia have impressive players as well in Modric and Kovacic, but they were made to work hard against Japan.
“Josko Gvardiol could become a very special centre-back.
“People do have breakthroughs in the World Cup, and he could be one of them.
“I do like him, but he’s got his work cut out for him today.”
Spurs have been linked with Gvardiol as they look for a new long-term solution on the left of their back three under Antonio Conte.
They signed Clement Lenglet on loan during the summer but that is more of a short term solution before they can get someone of the right quality.
Gvardiol would fit the bill but he would also be expensive and surely his World Cup performances will have other top clubs sniffing around.
