West Ham boss David Moyes has swooped to try and beat Wolves and Leeds to exciting Atletico Madrid striker Matheus Cunha, a new report claims, writes the HammerNews.
There is grave concern at West Ham over Moyes’ failure, thus far, to get the best out of £35m summer signing Gianluca Scamacca.
West Ham have scored just 12 goals in the Premier League this season, the joint second lowest in the division. Only Wolverhampton Wanderers have a worse record.
So it is perhaps no surprise that both Wolves and West Ham – as well as Leeds United – are being linked with a move to bring in more firepower in January.
Many West Ham fans felt the club needed to sign two forwards in the summer. With Michail Antonio turning 33 in March and having seen his form fall off a cliff this year, it is clear they were right.
Now West Ham boss David Moyes has swooped to try and beat Wolves and Leeds to exciting Atletico Madrid striker Matheus Cunha claims a new report.
Wolves and Leeds are just two of a host of Prem clubs that have been linked with Cunha – who has played eight times for Brazil.
The 23-year-old has struggled since joining Atletico in the summer of 2021, scoring just seven goals in 54 games.
Arsenal, Aston Villa and Man United have been mentioned as being interested in Cunha too.
But recent reports suggested Wolves and Leeds were the frontrunners for the ex RB Leipzig star’s signature (Yorkshire Evening Post and Leeds All Over).
Mundo Deportivo report that West Ham have been tracking Cunha ‘very closely’ and will face the stiffest test from Wolves where new boss Julen Lopetegui is keen on the striker.
The report comes from Mundo Deportivo’s Atletico Madrid editor Javier G Gomara, who has the inside scoop on the goings on with Deigo Simeone’s side.
The alleged West Ham, Wolves and Leeds target scored a goal against Bayer Leverkusen in 2019 which won the Bundesliga Goal of the Month award and was nominated for the FIFA Puskás Award.
