French player Clement Lenglet, who is on loan at Tottenham, made his debut for the team in the Premier League.
The North London team beat Fulham 2-1 on Saturday. Lenglet was happy to be out for the first time in a Spurs shirt, even more so in the winning game.
The defender also praised the role of goalkeeper Hugo Lloris and said he saved the game in the closing stages to not concede the vital goal.
It was Tottenham’s fourth straight victory, as goals from Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Harry Kane in each half decided the outcome in Tottenham’s favor.
The ending was nerve-racking as Serbian Aleksandar Mitrovic managed to get one goal back in the 83rd minute. There was one more moment two minutes from the end of the match which made the players and the fans of the team from North London nervous but after the strike of the opponents’ player, the Spurs’ goalkeeper Lloris made an exceptional save and the hosts managed to hold on to the crucial victory.
The French defender commented on the episode.
“This is the definition of Hugo Lloris, no? He is always present when we have a bad moment and when we are in difficulty.
“He showed all his quality on this save and we are very happy to have Hugo behind us.
“It is a big win because it is a difficult opponent. We play a good game, with a lot of intention to take the possession to try to put difficulty against this team and we found a lot of solution to score goals. Maybe we didn’t score a lot but it is not a problem because we win and this is the most important thing.”
The Frenchman blended seamlessly into the back three on the left flank, and demonstrated the qualities for which he was hired.
“Yes, very happy because it is a new challenge for me, new competition, new team, new stadium so everything was new and I’m very, very happy to start and win with my team-mates,” Lenglet told SpursPlay.
“If we look at the statistics, maybe we can say we win 3-0 but the Premier League is like this. During 97 minutes you need to be focused to win the game and hopefully we did a good job.”
