’22 goals last season’ – Everton can complete free transfer of Ligue 1 star

Moussa Dembele is expected to leave Lyon as a free agent at the end of the season, and Everton is among the clubs interested in signing him.

The 26-year-old French striker has scored three goals in 19 appearances this campaign, but he netted 22 times for Lyon last season. Lyon paid £20 million for Dembele’s services in 2018, but they cannot prevent him from leaving for free in June, writes the LiverpoolEcho.

Manager Vincent Ponsot expressed disappointment with the situation, saying that more and more players are released at the end of their contracts. Dembele rejected a move to Southampton earlier in the season, and Everton manager Sean Dyche will have to persuade him to join the club.

TalkSPORT pundit Darren Bent thinks that Dembele would be a good addition to Everton’s attacking options. The Blues have scored the fewest goals in the Premier League this season, so Dyche will be eager to bolster his team’s attack as soon as possible.

Darren Bent thinks it would be a good move: “That would be a good striker (for Everton). (Dembele) is a goalscorer. He hasn’t been prolific this season but, last season, he was fantastic.”
