‘The asking fee will reduce’ – Everton will make a move for extraordinary South American in January

Football journalist Pete O’Rourke believes Everton will consider signing Blackburn Rovers forward Ben Brereton Diaz again in the January transfer window after missing out in the summer, writes the TBR.

The 23-year-old Chilean was linked with a move to numerous Premier League clubs last month. The likes of West Ham and Leeds United were said to be keen, but reports revealed that Everton were the ones who came closest to getting him.

However, a deal did not materialise.

Frank Lampard was desperate for a new attacker in the summer, and after links to multiple big names over the course of the window, they ended up with Neal Maupay in the final week.

The Frenchman is not a bad player at all, but he’s definitely not the one Lampard would’ve had in his mind at the start of the window. That could convince the Everton boss to dive into the market in January, and O’Rourke believes Diaz will be an option again.

He told GiveMeSport: “Brereton Diaz, I’m sure, will be somebody that they (Everton) will look at again in January, knowing that his price tag will be reduced due to his contract situation as well.

“So I think Everton, if they are in the market for attacking reinforcements, Brereton Diaz will probably be pretty high up the list.”

Diaz, branded as an ‘extraordinary’ player, scored 22 goals in the Championship last season.
