“Accept it and keep going” – In-form Spurs star reveals how he won over Jose Mourinho this season
Speaking to The Guardian, Tottenham Hotspur defender Davinson Sanchez said that patience and professionalism were all it took to be in the good books of Jose Mourinho once again, informs Tothelaneandback.com.
The Colombian centre-back joined the Lilywhites from Ajax in 2017. He did not have a very good start to this season on an individual level despite Spurs doing well as a team.
He played 4 out of their first 5 league games but did not feature even for a single minute in the nxt 9. And in that time, Spurs went top of the table and beat Arsenal comprehensively by a 2-0 scoreline.
Nevertheless, he has had a revival at the club despite Spurs themselves falling down the table. The 24-year-old has now played the full 90 minutes in Spurs’ last 6 Premier League encounters.
And he states that there was not much he could except wait for his chance and make the most of it when it comes.
“You cannot be disappointed when the team is doing well and you are not involved at all – even if you normally have been and things have changed. You need to keep going and wait for your chance, which is what has happened with me.”
He added that he had to look inwards to find a solution instead of trying to find excuses. He is now a regular fixture in the heart of the Spurs defence.
“If you are not in the condition to be in the starting XI, you don’t expect to be. You just have to deal with it if your teammates are going better than you and getting more minutes than you. You have to accept it. The only way to change it is by starting from yourself.”
