Ally McCoist Praises Jarrad Branthwaite but Doubts His EURO 2024 Inclusion

Former Rangers striker Ally McCoist heaped praise on Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite following his performance against Arsenal, but believes the youngster won’t be included in England’s EURO 2024 squad.

“I thought Everton played really well [against Arsenal],” McCoist said on talkSPORT. “Tarkowski, I felt, was different class. And I think Branthwaite has been terrific, aside from the Chelsea game.”

The 21-year-old has impressed this season, earning his first England call-up but failing to make his debut. McCoist acknowledged Branthwaite’s development: “He’s young so he’s entitled to [a bad game]. But sadly, I don’t think he will be on the plane [to EUROs].”

Despite his reservations, McCoist championed Branthwaite’s inclusion: “Should he be in the reckoning? You better believe he should. I think he’s had a terrific season.”

Branthwaite will be hoping to impress Gareth Southgate further and potentially change the pundit’s prediction.
