Ashley Young has credited Seamus Coleman for delivering a powerful half-time speech that helped inspire Everton to their first Premier League win of the season. The Toffees came from behind to secure a 2-1 victory over Crystal Palace at Goodison Park, with Dwight McNeil scoring twice in quick succession after the break.
Everton went into halftime trailing 1-0 following Marc Guehi’s early goal for Palace, and the home crowd expressed their frustration with boos as the players left the pitch. But according to Young, it was Coleman’s rousing team talk during the interval that sparked the turnaround.
Currently sidelined with a groin injury, Coleman still made his presence felt off the pitch. Young, who played at right-back, hinted that the captain’s words could have been heard by those beyond the dressing room. Taking to Instagram after the match, Young wrote: “Massive 3pts. It has been coming, we’ve been unlucky but our togetherness is too strong to not change that luck at some point. Maybe it was the Skip’s speech at half-time, I think the whole stadium heard him 👀🤣😂.”
