Bale provides fitness update as Mourinho delivers verdict on Tottenham debutant Vinicius
Here is your Tottenham morning digest for Friday, October 23 according to football.london.
Gareth Bale spoke to BT Sport after making his (second) full Tottenham debut in the 3-0 win over LASK in the Europa League on Thursday night.
“We know these games are important. We went out there today and did a great job,” he said. “We were solid, threatening and the most important thing is to get the start and three points.”
Asked how he felt after the game, he replied with a laugh: “A bit stiff. It’s like a little pre-season for me at the moment. I’m just trying to get fit and to get more minutes in my legs.
“Hopefully it won’t take me long to get up to speed and I’m just enjoying being back at the pitch and at this amazing club.”
Mourinho’s Vinicius verdict
New Spurs signing Carlos Vinicius made his debut in the win over LASK and set up a goal within 20 minutes.
After the game, Jose Mourinho gave his verdict on the striker’s performance, saying: “He played well but he can do better. It’s not easy to not speak English so the adaptation to the group isn’t an easy situation.
“Different football, different way to play, how we want to press. It’s about learning. But with these circumstances, his first match, he did well.
“The only thing that was missing was a goal. He showed he’s more than that and that he can play with Harry Kane as well.”
