BBC pundit wowed by player Newcastle and Tottenham reportedly want to sign

Garth Crooks has raved about reported Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle United summer transfer target Antonio Rudiger on BBC Sport.

The former Tottenham forward has included Chelsea central defender Rudiger n his Premier League Team of the Week for BBC Sport.

Crooks was impressed by the performance of the 29-year-old Germany international centre-back during Chelsea’s 1-0 win against Newcastle at Stamford Bridge in London in the Premier League on Sunday.

The Telegraph reported last week that Newcastle want to sign the centre-back on a free transfer in the summer of 2022.

Eurosport reported in December that Tottenham are keen on bringing Rudiger to Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on a free transfer and are planning to make a strong offer.

Crooks wrote on BBC Sport: “Rudiger is one of their key players who is out of contract at the end of the season, with the club now unable to renegotiate his contract due to the sanctions.

“You would never have known by the passion, determination and sheer enthusiasm of his performance.

“Looking at the attitude of the players and manager after the match one or two might still hang around regardless of their contractual situation.”

In our view, Rudiger would be a brilliant signing for Newcastle or Tottenham in the summer transfer window.

The 29-year-old is at the top of his game now, and given his extensive experience in the Premier League, he would be able to make an immediate impact at Newcastle or Tottenham.

In our opinion, Tottenham will have the advantage over Newcastle in the race for the defender.

After all, Newcastle are just starting their big project.
