Don Hutchison sees Everton sacking Rafa Benitez in case they suffer a four or five goal drubbing against Liverpool later today (1 December).
The Toffees are in a wretched run of form and that has put tremendous pressure on Benitez to deliver the results.
His job appears to be on the line and a few bad performances in quick succession could see the hierarchy make the big decision to part ways with him.
Predicting what they could do, Hutchison, a BT Sport pundit, told Premier League Productions, “If they lose by four or five against Liverpool, he could be gone. There’s a very good chance that could happen. He is really under pressure.”
Benitez wasn’t appointed with plenty of cheers on Merseyside and managed to spark negative reactions from Everton and Liverpool fans alike.
Having won the Champions League with the Reds, many questioned why he wanted to tarnish his legacy at Anfield by taking the Goodison Park hot seat.
It would be poetic that a defeat against Liverpool gets him sacked by Everton, but we do not see it happening so soon.
It is hard to expect more from Benitez, given the lack of investment in the summer and the number of injuries.
He’s not been dealt the same hand as his predecessors were, so comparing him to them is not a fair thing to do.
Benitez should be backed in January and if the results are still not good enough then he should be shown the door.
