David Moyes must start rarely seen £14 million man tonight

For tonight’s match against Manchester City, it is imperative that David Moyes includes Flynn Downes in the starting lineup for West Ham, suggests the HammerNews.

Given West Ham’s busy schedule, with a game against Manchester United soon after and a Europa Conference League semi-final against AZ Alkmaar next week, Downes has earned his chance to feature in the team.

According to Wales Online, the Hammers signed Flynn Downes from Swansea City for about £14 million in the summer. However, the 24-year-old has not had much playing time this season, having only played a total of 1,241 minutes, with just 487 minutes in the Premier League, as reported by Transfermarkt.

Nonetheless, every time Downes has played for West Ham, he has performed admirably, displaying tenacious tackling skills, tremendous energy and stamina, and excellent passing abilities. It’s perplexing to me that he hasn’t had more playing time, particularly when Tomas Soucek consistently starts every week.

Given the upcoming hectic fixture schedule for West Ham, including a Premier League game against Manchester United and a Europa Conference League semi-final tie against AZ Alkmaar, starting Downes in the Manchester City vs West Ham match tomorrow night would be a wise decision. Moyes should seize this opportunity to freshen up his starting lineup, and Downes would undoubtedly be a top contender to start.
