Dele Alli’s already disappointing loan spell at Besiktas has taken a turn for the worse

Dele Alli’s already disappointing loan spell at Besiktas has taken a turn for the worse as he is expected to return to the UK for injury assessment, relays the Mirror.

The midfielder has had a dismal season at the Turkish club, making only 15 appearances across all competitions. Despite hopes that the move to the Turkish Super Lig would re-energize his career, that has not been the case. In addition to his lack of playing time, Alli has had several confrontations with manager Senol Gunes. To make matters worse, he has suffered a muscle injury which has resulted in his return to parent club, Everton. The situation now leaves the Englishman with an uncertain future.

Dele Alli is reportedly scheduled to arrive in Merseyside on Saturday, where he will undergo an assessment of his injury by Everton’s medical staff. Despite Besiktas’ desire to terminate his loan in the January transfer window, they were unable to do so due to the absence of a break clause in his temporary contract. After failing to impress at Everton since his arrival in February 2022, Alli was sent out on loan to Besiktas, where he has struggled to find form and faced criticism from his boss, Senol Gunes. Alli’s last appearance for Besiktas was in February, and he has been accused of going AWOL by Gunes, though it was later revealed that he had received permission to return to England for a doctor’s appointment. Earlier in the season, Alli was subbed off after 29 minutes in Besiktas’ win over Sanliurfaspor, and he was left on the bench in their last 16 defeat to MKE Ankaragücü at the end of January, with Gunes stating that Alli needed to work his way back into the team.

“Dele Alli has had a good career. But he doesn’t deserve to play at the moment. The current situation has not met our expectations as a team,” Gunes said after his side’s defeat on penalties.

“We expect him to contribute to the team, but we think he cannot contribute at the moment. We will evaluate it with him and the club. We prepared for the matches with the players here.

“We will make an evaluation by looking at these players in the match on Sunday. We will evaluate if there is a transfer. The transfer will be discussed in this month, as in all teams. I cannot answer this at the moment.”
