Everton striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin has shed light on his dedicated summer training regimen and explained why he chose to seek treatment at the renowned Myos Sports and Health Clinic in Germany, writes the LiverpoolEcho. The talented forward has faced significant setbacks due to recurring injuries over the past two seasons, and he is determined to find a long-term solution to his fitness woes.
Calvert-Lewin’s frustrations were evident as he made only 18 appearances and scored five goals during the 2021/22 campaign. The following season brought more misery, as he once again battled injuries and managed just 18 appearances, finding the net only twice. Although he made a late comeback towards the end of the season, a hamstring injury forced him to miss Everton’s final-day clash against Bournemouth.
While Everton’s players returned to pre-season training last Thursday, Calvert-Lewin had already commenced his preparations well in advance of his teammates’ arrival at Finch Farm. Eager to address his recent struggles and lay a solid foundation for his physical well-being, the England international visited the Myos Sports and Health Clinic in Munich for reassessment and specialized training.
Speaking to evertontv, Calvert-Lewin expressed his optimism about his progress, saying, “I’m progressing really well and feeling good. I’m just upping and upping it every day, every week so far. I was back in before the lads as well, so this is more like my third week back in rather than my first. I worked pretty much all the way through the off-season.”
Recognizing the significance of the upcoming season for both himself and the club, Calvert-Lewin emphasized his desire to regain his peak performance level consistently. He acknowledged the frustration he and the fans have experienced due to his intermittent contributions on the pitch and the inability to impact games consistently. His extra training was aimed at rectifying this issue, and he is satisfied with the progress he has made so far.
Regarding his visit to Germany, Calvert-Lewin explained, “After finishing the season not how I wanted to on a personal note, it was a time to re-evaluate and start to build better foundations with my body. It was really good. It was an opportunity for me to get some extra training and work in. I was there for just over a week, doing double sessions.”
Calvert-Lewin appreciated the chance to focus on his rehabilitation without the pressure of imminent matches, as it allowed him to take a measured approach towards regaining his fitness. The additional training he underwent during his time at the clinic has set him on a path towards optimal physical condition for the upcoming season.
As Everton fans eagerly anticipate Calvert-Lewin’s return to peak form, the striker’s commitment to his fitness and well-being signals his determination to overcome the injury setbacks that have plagued him in recent times. With his rigorous summer preparations and the valuable assistance received from the German clinic, Calvert-Lewin aims to make a significant impact for Everton in the coming season.
