Dyche now likely to start ‘fringe’ player in all remaining PL games

Paul Joyce reports that Nathan Patterson is expected to start in their crucial remaining Premier League matches following Seamus Coleman’s season-ending knee injury, informs the GN.

Coleman sustained the injury during the 2-2 draw against Leicester on May 1st after a late tackle by Boubakary Soumare, which caused him to fall awkwardly and injure his knee. While Coleman has confirmed that he has not suffered ACL damage, the Liverpool Echo reports that the Irish international is still likely to miss the rest of the season.

According to Paul Joyce in his article in The Times, Everton manager Sean Dyche is expected to start Nathan Patterson, a fringe player, in place of Seamus Coleman who suffered a season-ending knee injury. Patterson, who replaced Coleman at right-back and performed well in their last match against Leicester, is expected to play in the club’s remaining four Premier League fixtures against Brighton & Hove Albion, Manchester City, Wolverhampton Wanderers, and Bournemouth.

The Toffees will look to secure their top-flight status for a 70th consecutive season and climb out of the relegation zone. Patterson was signed by Everton as a long-term replacement for Coleman last summer, and his opportunity to shine has now come with the Irish international expected to miss the remainder of the campaign.

Although Dyche has a tendency to prefer experience over youth, Patterson’s potential may force the manager to change tactics. The team struggled without Coleman during his recent absence due to a hamstring problem, but given his qualities, Patterson appears to be an ideal replacement for the veteran defender.
