Everton have ‘already registered interest’ in PL forward

According to BILD, striker Jean-Philippe Mateta is eager to leave Crystal Palace this summer, and Everton has reportedly shown interest in him, writes the SW.

The German publication explains that the 25-year-old, who joined Crystal Palace on an initial loan move in January 2022, is not satisfied with his current situation at Selhurst Park and wishes to return to the Bundesliga. Mateta, who made only six starts and scored two goals in 29 league games last season, believes he received insufficient playing time. As a result, he has expressed his desire to depart the Eagles this summer.

Crystal Palace is willing to let him go, even open to a potential loan deal, but so far there has been no interest from Bundesliga clubs. Mateta’s former team, Mainz, has already ruled out a possible deal.

Instead, it is Everton and Galatasaray who have reportedly shown interest in the player. Everton is in search of a new striker this summer, with Neal Maupay expected to leave and Dominic Calvert-Lewin facing ongoing injury issues that make him unreliable moving forward. Mateta, if available on loan, could be a suitable option for Everton, considering their limited finances. However, it appears that Everton may need to persuade the player to join them at Goodison Park.
