According to Gazzetta Dello Sport, Everton has taken a decisive step towards signing Leeds United attacker Wilfried Gnonto, writes the LUNews. It is also reported that surprise Bundesliga team Freiburg has expressed interest in Gnonto, and his potential transfer fee could range between £13 million and £17 million.
Everton has been strongly linked with Gnonto this summer as they seek to bolster their attacking options, potentially with the departures of Demarai Gray and Alex Iwobi. Gnonto is among several Leeds attackers rumored to be targets for Everton, including Jack Harrison, Crysencio Summerville, and Rodrigo.
However, as per the Yorkshire Evening Post, Leeds has not yet received any interest in Gnonto, which contradicts reports from his home country. Gnonto’s agent, Claudio Vigorelli, recently hinted that the 19-year-old would prefer to continue playing at the top level following Leeds’ relegation. Despite this, Leeds should have a strong position to retain him since Gnonto still has four years remaining on his contract, which seemingly lacks a release clause.
The reported asking price of £13 million to £17 million by Gazzetta appears remarkably low considering Gnonto’s impressive season and his growing reputation. Leeds should expect to command a fee exceeding £30 million for their talented attacker, especially when comparing it to the valuations set by fellow relegated teams Southampton and Leicester City for their players.
