Everton in advanced talks over key player after breakthrough in talks

Sources informed Football Insider that negotiations between Everton midfielder Alex Iwobi, 26, and the club have progressed positively, resulting in the player being on the verge of signing a new long-term contract.

Iwobi has been pondering his future ahead of the summer, when he is set to enter the final year of his current deal. However, he has now agreed to accept the new contract offered by Everton and is expected to finalize the agreement soon. This news is a significant boost for Everton, as Iwobi has become a vital player for the team this season.

The Nigeria international’s situation has been monitored by Premier League clubs and European sides, but his decision to stay will be welcomed by Everton fans, particularly as the club is currently involved in a relegation battle. The announcement about Iwobi’s new contract comes shortly after Everton confirmed that their valuable asset Jordan Pickford had signed a long-term deal. Iwobi has been a significant player for the Merseyside club, making 128 appearances and starting in all 28 of their Premier League matches this season.

The club has been eager to secure the market value of Iwobi, whom they consider to be just as important under Sean Dyche as he was under predecessor Frank Lampard. Last weekend, the Nigeria international played in his 211th Premier League match, with many of those appearances occurring during his time at Arsenal before his transfer to Everton in the summer of 2019.
