Everton reignite interest in Sporting ace after price tag slashed

According to Record, Everton continues to show interest in striker Viktor Gyökeres and is considered a major competitor for Sporting Club de Portugal in the pursuit of the player, writes the SW.

The report indicates that Everton is among several clubs keen on securing the services of the 24-year-old forward during the upcoming summer transfer window.

Gyökeres is said to be at the top of Sporting’s list as they seek to strengthen their attacking options following another impressive season in the Championship. Over the past two campaigns, he has netted a total of 40 goals, with 22 goals this season and 18 goals last season. Additionally, he has contributed 17 assists and been involved in 34 goals overall this year.

Sporting has taken notice of his performances and considers him a potential target as they look for a new forward to bolster their squad in the summer. They are prepared to make a substantial investment to secure his signature. However, they will need to act swiftly as Gyökeres has attracted interest from several Premier League clubs.

The list of potential suitors is already extensive, including financially strong clubs capable of offering more compelling financial arguments than Sporting. Everton is identified as one of those clubs in the newspaper’s report.

Everton’s interest in Gyökeres has been ongoing, with previous reports linking them to the player last summer and during the January transfer window. The club is in desperate need of a goal scorer, and the fact that he is valued at €13m aligns well with Everton’s current financial situation.

Although the figure may seem low, it should be noted that Gyökeres’ contract expires in 2024. This situation reduces his price as Coventry may need to sell him this summer to avoid losing him for free in a year’s time.
