Fabrizio Romano issues further Spurs update on Antonio Conte and it’s not good news

Antonio Conte will categorically not be joining Spurs, with no u-turn expected despite the club trying to come to an agreement.

That’s according to Fabrizio Romano, who says that Conte won’t be changing his mind about a move to North London.

The respected journalist and transfer expert took to Twitter yesterday evening to issue the update.

Spurs’ failed attempt to land Conte has left them back at square one. The club spent a week or so tracking him. But now, they must draw up a new list of potential targets.

As covered by TBR yesterday, Ajax coach Erik Ten Hag remains very much on the list. He signed a new deal with the Dutch club recently, but Spurs could be forced to buy him out of that contract.

Tottenham have been looking at a number of options ever since Jose Mourinho departed. The likes of Brendan Rodgers and Scott Parker have been considered, while Paulo Fonseca is another name in the hat.

A deal for Conte had looked close on Friday. However, talks broke down late on and the Italian is clearly set on not joining the club now.

There was genuine excitement around the potential appointment of Conte with Spurs fans. He is a winner, a big name, and proven in England as well.

Losing out is a massive blow for the club. And even though it’s only early days heading into the summer, you just get a bad feeling at the moment.

The club needs stability and someone in charge, and quickly. Levy needs to act now and ensure someone is in place in the next few weeks. Without doing that, Spurs face missing out on transfers and other vital aspects of a good pre-season.
