Speaking on the latest Here We Go Podcast, reputed journalist and transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has issued an update on the contract situation of Tottenham Hotspur superstar Son Heung-min, writes ToTheLaneAndBack.
Son has been with Tottenham Hotspur since 2015 when he signed from German outfit Bayer Leverkusen. Over the past six years, the South Korean international has grown into an integral player of the Spurs’ side and one of the best attackers in the Premier League.
The 2020/21 campaign was one of Son’s best even though his form appeared to tail off a bit towards the end of the season. The 28-year-old finished with numbers of 22 goals and 17 assists from 51 games across all competitions, standing out as one of Tottenham’s best player alongside star man Harry Kane.
Son Heung-min is currently contracted with Tottenham till the summer of 2023. Talks of a new and improved deal have been doing the rounds for months now. However, there has been no update from the club on the matter.
Romano, though, has now confirmed that there have been positive talks on the contractual front between Tottenham and Son. The journalist added that the renewal will be focused on once the managerial situation is sorted out at the club.
“Tottenham are working on the new contract for Heung-min Son. There are positive contacts, they’ve been working on it for six months. Now, of course, they are focusing on the manager situation but they want to extend the contract of Son. They are really optimistic, so it’s a work in progress for a new contract for Son with Tottenham.”
Tottenham have reportedly reached an agreement with Paulo Fonseca to become the new manager. With that out of the way, the club can now turn their attention towards’s Son’s renewal. The 28-year-old is an integral player and tying him down to a new and improved deal is crucial for the team.
