Fabrizio Romano revealed that West Ham will miss out on £45m-rated Rice replacement

According to Fabrizio Romano, West Ham United is unlikely to secure the signing of Edson Alvarez from Ajax, as the midfielder is reportedly close to joining Borussia Dortmund instead, writes the HITC.

West Ham is not the only club facing the challenge of finding a replacement for a prominent English international. While Declan Rice is at the center of a transfer battle involving Arsenal, Manchester City, and Manchester United, last season’s Bundesliga runners-up are dealing with a void in their midfield left by Jude Bellingham’s departure to Real Madrid earlier this month.

Although Edson Alvarez does not directly replace Bellingham, his defensive-minded playing style would help compensate for the loss of Bellingham’s strength, composure, and presence in the midfield.

Romano said on Twitter: “Edson Alvarez has almost agreed personal terms with Borussia Dortmund,”

“Concrete talks between BVB and Ajax are set to start. BVB (will make an) official bid, set to be submitted next week to accelerate on the deal.”

Romano explained 24 hours earlier that Alvarez, should he seal his move to the Signal Iduna Park, will sign a six-year deal until the summer of 2028. Dortmund are hoping to finalise a deal by the end of June.
