Gareth Bale has reportedly told Jose Mourinho that Joe Rodon would be a good signing for Tottenham, according to Express.
Tottenham star Gareth Bale has urged Jose Mourinho to make a move to sign Swansea defender Joe Rodon before Friday’s domestic transfer window, according to Duncan Castles of the Transfer Window Podcast.
Mourinho has been eager to sign a new centre-back this summer, having significantly strengthened the rest of his side.
Tottenham spent big to sign Sergio Reguilon, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Matt Doherty, while securing loans for Bale and Carlos Vinicius.
However, with the domestic transfer window still open until Friday evening, Mourinho is keen to sign a new centre-back to complete his new-look side.
Spurs failed in their bid to sign Milan Skriniar from Inter Milan late in the window after refusing to meet his asking price of nearly £60million.
Rodon has emerged as an alternative target, one who could be considerably cheaper.
The 22-year-old was previously a target for Manchester United, though they opted against signing a centre-back this summer.
And according to Castles, Mourinho has spoken to Bale – Rodon’s Wales international team-mate – about what he thinks of the £18m-rated star.
He said: “Jose Mourinho has prioritised the signing of a centre-back in this window, and it’s the one area where he hasn’t been provided with a player yet.
“They did make an offer to Inter Milan for Milan Skriniar, who was Mourinho’s first-choice for the position, but they were well off Inter’s £60million asking price.
“Tottenham’s scouting department have proposed an alternative from the Championship – Joe Rodon from Swansea City.
“My understanding is that Mourinho has now talked to people he trusts on transfers about Rodon to get a sense of whether he’ll be a good fit to the team for what he’s looking for.
“He’s also talked to Rodon’s international team-mate Gareth Bale, and has been told by Bale that Rodon would be an excellent signing.
