Gary Lineker and Alan Shearer Back Jarrod Bowen for England Euro Squad

Gary Lineker and Alan Shearer have voiced their support for West Ham star Jarrod Bowen to be included in Gareth Southgate’s England squad for the upcoming European Championships this summer.

Discussing the highly competitive selection process on The Rest Is Football podcast, Lineker emphasized the wealth of talent at Southgate’s disposal, predicting that some top-class players would inevitably miss out on a spot in the squad. However, both Lineker and Shearer singled out Bowen for praise, citing his outstanding performances in a more central role for West Ham this season.

Lineker stated, “Obviously, Gareth [Southgate] has got a hell of a pool of players to choose from, which is a nice problem to have. There will be one or two really top-class forwards missing out.” Shearer then added his endorsement for Bowen, saying, “Bowen is another one, he’s having a great season playing a lot of his game down the middle. He’s scoring a lot of goals as well.”

Suggesting a potential role for Bowen, Lineker remarked, “Bowen could tag in and give the possibility of using him as the utility, third striker option after [Harry] Kane and [Ollie] Watkins who I think are already there.”

Gareth Southgate is set to announce the England squad on March 7, ahead of friendly matches against Belgium and Brazil. These fixtures will serve as the final auditions for players vying for a spot in the Euro 2024 squad.
