‘He called me and said’ – Coufal says David Moyes admitted “mistake” of dropping him

According to West Ham United right-back Vladimir Coufal, manager David Moyes admitted that it was a mistake to drop him out of the team, writes the football.london.

Although Coufal has been a regular player at right-back for West Ham since he joined from Slavia Prague in October 2020, he found himself out of the starting 11 for the final six weeks before the 2022 World Cup break. He was only able to start one match during that time, due to an injury crisis in defence, and played just two additional minutes against Bournemouth, where he won a penalty for West Ham in a 2-0 victory.

However, since the Boxing Day, Coufal had started all nine league matches before he suffered a heel injury that has kept him out of the Hammers’ last five games.

Despite being out of action recently, Vladimir Coufal is currently on international duty with the Czech Republic squad, along with his teammate Tomas Soucek. Coufal could make his return to the field on Friday night against Poland or in the match against Moldova on Monday. Although he was linked with a transfer to Bayer Leverkusen in January, the move did not materialize.

Coufal has opened up about his reduced playing time earlier in the season, saying that Moyes had admitted to him that it was a mistake not to include him and had also reassured him that he did not want him to leave the club. When asked about Moyes’ future at West Ham, Coufal declined to comment, stating that he was not in a position to say anything.
