‘He came in’ – Duncan Ferguson admits he was left ‘disappointed’ after Frank Lampard arrival

Duncan Ferguson has expressed his disappointment at never having been given the opportunity to manage Everton on a permanent basis, writes the LiverpoolEcho.

Despite serving as interim manager twice, following the dismissals of Rafael Benitez and Marco Silva, he was not offered the role permanently. During his interim spells, he achieved a win against Chelsea and draws against Arsenal and Manchester United, with only one defeat.

Despite being appointed as an assistant manager under Carlo Ancelotti, Rafa Benitez, and Frank Lampard, Ferguson remained dissatisfied when the position was given to Lampard, a former Chelsea player.

Ferguson said (via Sky Sports): “I think it was considered. I went for an interview, but unfortunately, I was unsuccessful in that interview. That was obviously disappointing to be a manager of a club that you loved. I think I deserved a chance at that, to take the team to the end of the season.

“Unfortunately, the club went along a different route, they brought in Frank Lampard, a great coach, a man I have a lot of respect for and we got on well. And to be fair to him, he came in, he steadied the ship, and he saved the club from relegation.

“But I was disappointed I never got that chance.”
