‘He’s been a driving force’ – Dyche shares injury update on key duo for clash v Newcastle

Ahead of Everton’s upcoming Premier League game against Newcastle United, Sean Dyche has given an injury update on key players Amadou Onana and Seamus Coleman, writes the LiverpoolWorld.

The Toffees have been without the duo in their last two games, which resulted in a 3-1 loss to Fulham and a goalless draw at Crystal Palace, leaving them in the relegation zone. Onana, who joined from Lille last summer for a fee of up to £33 million, has made 30 appearances and scored one goal but has been sidelined with a groin injury.

Meanwhile, Everton skipper Coleman has been absent due to a hamstring problem. Dyche confirmed that both players are back training “on the grass,” and the Everton team is expected to make a late decision on whether they will play or not. The Everton boss stated, “Seamus and Amadou have been on the grass, so we’ll make a decision on them.”

After serving a three-match suspension, Abdoulaye Doucoure is set to return to the Everton starting line-up. The midfielder had received a red card for his outburst against Harry Kane in a 1-1 draw against Tottenham. According to Dyche, Doucoure is a key player and his presence will likely make a positive impact on the team.

Dyche stated that he values the passion and pride that players bring to the game, and Doucoure’s energy and application have been a driving force behind the team’s success. On the other hand, Mason Holgate will be unavailable for selection due to his one-match ban following his sending off against Crystal Palace.

“I don’t ask players to make amends for moments in a game. You want the passion and the pride in a game. You want players to look after themselves when they’re not playing and he’s done that so he can come back in. His energy and applicaton, he’s scored. He’s been a driving force behind the whole unit.”
