‘He’s been able to look from afar’ – Kevin Nolan names West Ham’s best signing this season

According to West Ham United coach Kevin Nolan, defender Nayef Aguerd has been the team’s most successful signing of the season. Speaking on the Football Daily Podcast after the Hammers’ recent win, Nolan acknowledged that the team has been struggling in the Premier League and currently sits just above the relegation zone, relays the TBR.

In their last league match, they lost 4-0 to Brighton, managing only a few shots on target. However, they fared better in their Europa Conference League match against AEK Larnaca, winning 2-0 with Michail Antonio scoring his first brace of the season.

Despite spending significant funds on several players during the summer transfer window, West Ham has yet to see positive results from most of them at the London Stadium. Nevertheless, Nolan believes that Aguerd has been the team’s best acquisition this season, citing his bad luck at the start of the campaign as a factor that contributed to their poor early results.

“Nayef, unfortunately, at Rangers in the second or third pre-season game goes down with an ankle injury and he’s out for three months,” – Nolan said to the Football Daily podcast.

“He’s probably been our best signing if you like this season, because he’s been able to look from afar and go ‘actually, I know what this is about’, because he’s been around the environment.

“But, it takes a lot of those lads a lot of time to get used to it, to get used to the intensity, and it’s not just the intensity of what’s going on on Saturday.

“It’s the intensity that goes on every day, and what’s expected of them.”
