Arsenal goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale looked frustrated after video footage emerged of Chelsea’s Conor Gallagher scoring against him in England training, writes the Chelsea Chronicle.
Arsenal’s first-choice goalkeeper Ramsdale, 24, is with the England camp for the current international fixtures in the Nations League.
Chelsea-owned midfielder Gallagher, who’s just finished a brilliant season-long loan with Crystal Palace, is another big talent in Gareth Southgate’s Three Lions group.
England uploaded some training footage yesterday from behind closed doors, which included one real eye-catching moment.
Chelsea’s rising star Gallagher, 22, scored a spectacular left-footed finish from the edge of the box into the top corner, which left England teammate Ramsdale frustrated.
“He’s done that twice,” Ramsdale said in the video (10m 50sec).
Gallagher’s frustrated Premier League goalkeepers, along with opposition players, for the last nine months with his performances at Selhurst Park. It’s great to see him mixing it now with England’s senior team, too.
His ability as a genuine goalscoring midfielder should excite both his club and country.
Gallagher was an unused substitute in England’s 1-0 defeat to Hungary at the weekend, but there’s still a few more games coming up for him to make his mark. It starts with the match away to Germany on Tuesday night.
The box-to-box central midfielder is around the group after a superb year on loan with Palace. He’s earned three senior caps for his country already, too.
However, you feel he need to start the 2022/23 season well to cement his spot in the squad for the World Cup at the end of the calendar year.
Gallagher will reportedly get his chance during pre-season to impress Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel, so all eyes will be on him to see if he can break into the first-team squad at Stamford Bridge properly.
