‘I find that lazy’ – Paul Merson slams Everton player for last week’s 2-0 loss to Aston Villa

During last week’s 2-0 loss to Aston Villa at Goodison Park, Sky Sports pundit Paul Merson criticized Everton winger Dwight McNeil for what he perceived as “lazy” play.

Under Sean Dyche, the Toffees have struggled in the attacking third, with only two goals coming from James Tarkowski and Seamus Coleman since the new manager’s arrival, and failing to score in their last two Premier League outings.

On Sky Sports’ Soccer Saturday, Merson criticized McNeil’s performance against Villa, claiming that the winger’s repeated crosses into the box were a sign of a lazy player. According to Merson, “There, with McNeil, they’re a token gesture.”

Pundit also added:

“You’ve been told to cross the ball, ‘so I’m just going to cross the ball whatever happens’. Have a bit more about you to come back out. It was like, ‘right, the manager’s told me I’ve got to get 10 crosses in before the the 50th minute’, and he’s just putting balls in.

“I find that lazy, if I’m being honest. It’s lazy.”
