‘I know’ – Tuchel confirms 27-year-old player is not happy and could leave club this summer

Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel has confirmed that Kepa Arrizabalaga is not satisfied with his situation at the club and may decide to leave this summer, writes the Chelsea Chronicle.

At a club like Chelsea where competition for starting spots is fierce, some players, unfortunately, will be disappointed by every time Tuchel announces his starting line-up.

Arrizabalaga is one of them.

Since the arrival of Edouard Mendy, the 27-year-old fell down the pecking order and only starts in certain games as part of the team rotation.

While it makes little sense financially for Chelsea to have one of the club’s highest-earning players as a backup goalkeeper, Tuchel clearly does not mind having two strong options.

It is just that Arrizabalaga may consider leaving the club to pursue regular football elsewhere.

“It depends on what he wants, and it depends on what his plans are, but I know that we are very privileged to have Edou [Mendy] and Kepa in our squad,” Tuchel said about the Spain international’s potential summer exit (via Football London).

“I know for sure that Kepa is not happy about the situation, and he deserves to play more and can be a strong number one.

Tuchel highlighted that Arrizabalaga joined Chelsea to be a first-choice goalkeeper and how the player has been a true professional despite losing his spot.

“So no, we did not have this conversation [about possible summer exit],” the manager added.

“I know the goalkeeper coaches have these conversations at the moment, and then we will take our time to speak with him, reflect what’s best, what the possibilities are.

“Of course as a coach, I’m super happy to have both strong goalkeepers. Let’s see.”
