‘I trusted them’ – Moyes hails impact of old guard following vital win

With their first away win since August, West Ham may have gained a much-needed boost in their fight to avoid relegation. They currently sit in 13th place with a game in hand. In an effort to avoid another embarrassing defeat like the 5-1 loss earlier in the week, David Moyes fielded a heavily changed team that included several players who had been successful in previous seasons, reports the WestHamWay.

The only goal of the game came from an own goal by Harrison Reed, caused by Jarrod Bowen’s heel deflecting Declan Rice’s free-kick. The team’s defense, led by Lukasz Fabianski and Angelo Ogbonna, put in a strong performance, much to Moyes’ satisfaction.

Despite recent success in the Conference League, West Ham has struggled in the Premier League, and there is still work to be done to ensure they do not get relegated. Nonetheless, the team looked determined to win and will now shift their focus to their upcoming European fixtures.

“We’re all excited about the upcoming European game. It’s great that we started playing in Europe in August and we’re still in it in April,” said Moyes, expressing his enthusiasm for the team’s European campaign.

Moyes, hoping to turn things around, made several changes to the team from the previous games against Newcastle and Southampton. He based his selection on the team’s success in recent years, having reached the final of the Europa League and finished 7th and 6th in the previous seasons. Despite the results from the previous games, Moyes was always going to make changes and he explained that he trusted the players he called in for the game, as they knew him well and he knew them well.

“The ones I called in today, I knew them well and they knew me well, I trusted them and I thought they did everything I wanted them to do.”
