‘It is going to be hard’ – Zouma fires West Ham warning after missed chances in relegation battle

Following West Ham’s 1-1 draw against Aston Villa, Kurt Zouma has cautioned his team that they will have a challenging journey until the end of the season, as they missed several opportunities to score.

The Hammers were able to move out of the relegation zone, albeit only on goal difference, thanks to Said Benrahma’s penalty that equalized Ollie Watkins’ sixth goal in seven Premier League games. Villa scored from their first attack, while West Ham had 17 shots, but struggled to create many clear-cut chances.

Zouma made his first Premier League start since mid-January, having recovered from a hamstring injury he sustained against AEK Larnaca in Cyprus on Thursday. The Frenchman’s fitness will be crucial to West Ham’s survival prospects, as well as their quest for success in the Europa Conference League.

Speaking to Evening Standard, Zouma said: “It should have been three points. We played a good game, we had many chances to score, but we couldn’t [finish them]. But that’s football, we got a point, we didn’t lose but obviously, we need to get wins.

“That was their only chance as well. The only chance they had in the box they scored, and they made the breakthrough. It is going to be hard until the end of the season, everyone can win but we believe in ourselves, we have the quality and we need to show it on the pitch.”
