‘It’s a funny thing’ – Everton boss Sean Dyche reflects on Aston Villa loss

After Everton suffered a 2-0 home defeat against Aston Villa, manager Sean Dyche has urged his players to display more bravery and conviction in front of goal.

The loss marked Dyche’s first defeat at Goodison Park since joining the Merseyside club. Everton’s defeat dropped them back into the relegation zone, currently sitting at 18th place in the Premier League standings.

Although Dyche stated that their overall performance was not bad and was similar to the one in which they beat Leeds the previous weekend, he acknowledged that they lacked the crucial moment to score a goal. Dyche emphasized the importance of his players exhibiting more courage and determination to score regularly.

However, he expressed his dissatisfaction with the team’s defense, conceding two soft goals.

Speaking to BBC, he explained:

“A lot of the performance was right and correct.

“We asked many questions and didn’t find a killer moment. It’s been missing all season. We’ve got to find that. It’s a funny thing. You need the bravery to miss.

“You have to go in with conviction to score and not worry if you miss. We’re close to that but that comes when you’re scoring and winning games.

“We have to keep clean sheets. There was not a lot of difference to the Leeds game. Two soft goals. I’m not pleased with that.”
