‘I’ve come in for a bit of stick’- Redknapp doubles down on Tottenham title comments

Former Tottenham Hotspur boss, Harry Redknapp has doubled down on his prediction that Tottenham Hotspur could challenge for the title despite being criticised for the call.

Some Spurs fans are seemingly brave enough to entertain thoughts of a title challenge for the first time in years, with the mood around the club being extremely positive on the back of the 6-1 thrashing of Manchester United last Sunday.

Bale’s agent, Jonathan Barnett is one of those who have backed the Lilywhites to push for the title year, despite being an Arsenal fan (talkSPORT).

Redknapp raved about the squad Jose Mourinho has at his disposal and insisted last week that the North Londoners could be dark horses to win the league (Sky Sports).

Harry’s prediction was mocked by some rival fans on social media, many of whom claimed that Tottenham had no chance of challenging for the league.

Rather than backing down from his previous prediction, the former Spurs boss has now reiterated that the Lilywhites could go all the way.

In his latest column for The Sun, Redknapp wrote: “I’ve come in for a bit of stick for suggesting Spurs can be serious title challengers this season, but what’s so daft about that?

“It is pretty obvious no one is going to run away with it like Liverpool last time — and some of the results have been real coupon busters.

“And I know Tottenham have been a bit of a mixed bag themselves, even if how well they played at Old Trafford was almost ignored as most people focused on how bad United were.

“But they will be there or thereabouts this season, even though I do think the eventual champions will once again be either Liverpool or Manchester City.

“You cannot knock the squad Jose Mourinho’s built, though, and there is genuine competition for every single position.

“It’s packed with internationals and the depth means that they’re far better placed to handle the inevitable injuries.

“OK, they might still fall short, but it would hardly be the strangest of outcomes in these strangest of times.”
