Jean-Clair Todibo is facing limited playing time at West Ham United due to fitness concerns, according to a report by Mail Online [25 September].
The report states that manager Julen Lopetegui has been cautious about involving the French defender, opting instead for Konstantinos Mavropanos to partner Max Kilman in the heart of the defense. Lopetegui reportedly does not believe Todibo is currently fit enough to take on a regular role.
Todibo joined West Ham on an initial loan deal, with a £34 million permanent move planned for next season. The 24-year-old French international was a coveted signing, with West Ham sporting director Tim Steidten securing his arrival despite competition from other clubs.
Despite the lack of playing time, Todibo is reportedly “happy in London” and “willing to bide his time,” with hopes of proving his fitness soon. He could get a chance to play in the upcoming Carabao Cup match against Liverpool on Wednesday (25 September).
So far, Todibo has only appeared for a total of nine minutes in Premier League matches, with brief cameos against Aston Villa and Crystal Palace. However, he has been left on the bench for the last three matches, despite West Ham’s defensive struggles. As his permanent transfer looms, fans are eager to see whether the former Barcelona, Benfica, and Nice player can live up to his price tag and bolster the team’s defense.
