Everton are on the brink of a takeover following a lengthy and complex process. John Friedkin is reportedly close to purchasing the club from current owner Farhad Moshiri, despite earlier reports that John Textor had entered a period of exclusivity for the acquisition.
The Friedkin Group has already begun planning for the club’s future, reportedly eyeing England manager Gareth Southgate as a potential replacement for current boss Sean Dyche. Dyche’s position remains precarious after a difficult start to the season, and this weekend’s clash against Crystal Palace could be crucial for his tenure.
With speculation mounting, talkSPORT presenter Jeff Stelling has expressed concerns over Friedkin’s management style, particularly referencing his track record at Roma, where there has been a rapid turnover of coaches.
“When you look at their track record in Roma, there’s been a phenomenal turnover in terms of coaching staff,” Stelling said on talkSPORT. “They just got rid of Daniele De Rossi, who’s a legend at Roma. They had just given him an extension until 2027 and then four games into a new season, in which he had lost only once, by the way, they decided to get rid of him.
“So I worry for Sean,” Stelling added, casting doubt over Dyche’s long-term future should Friedkin complete the takeover.
As uncertainty looms over Everton’s future, Dyche’s job appears to be hanging in the balance, making the upcoming match all the more crucial.
