Jose Mourinho responds when asked whether Spurs are title contenders this season

Tottenham boss, Jose Mourinho has refused to rule out his club’s chances of winning the league title this season but admitted that the team has to improve their home form if they are to have any chance.

After Tottenham’s win at Turf Moor on Monday, Mourinho insisted that he would ‘never consider’ Spurs title contenders but his stance seems to have softened over the past week.

This comes after the North Londoners were defeated at the hands of Royal Antwerp in the Europa League on Thursday.

When asked whether his side can contest for the league, he told Sky Sports: “Anything can happen in the Premier League.”

The Tottenham boss then rued the points that his side have already thrown away at home against West Ham and Newcastle United this season.

He said: “We are magnificent away from home [in the league]. But at home we have lost too many points, and with these points, we would be there [Premier League leaders].”

The Spurs boss also insisted that he took just as much satisfaction from the manner in which his side defeated Burnley as he does when they play the opposition off the park and score lots of goals.

The 57-year-old added: “It’s the same satisfaction. I prefer to win the three points [by] playing very well. But what is playing very well?

“It can be incredible, attacking, fluent, exciting football or it can also be the kind of football that we had to play against Burnley and that gave me great satisfaction because it’s the kind of match with all the ingredients for a team to lose points.

“You have to adapt. So at the end of the match, we were very happy.”
