“Jose’s bigger than this club”, “by a mile”: Some Spurs fans react to what Mourinho’s just said

Spurs fans have given their thoughts on Jose Mourinho’s claim that the 2020-21 League Cup counts as an extra half-trophy.

Mourinho replaced Mauricio Pochettino at Spurs in November 2019 and led them to a sixth-placed finish in his debut season.

However, Tottenham struggled for much of last season, leading to his sacking in April.

When Mourinho left, Spurs were five points adrift of the Champions League places.

They had also suffered an embarrassing Europa League exit to Dinamo Zagreb in March.

However, Mourinho did get Tottenham to the League Cup final, but Daniel Levy sacked him a week before the game.

His tenure at Spurs was the only time he didn’t lift a trophy with a club.

Mourinho previously won silverware at Porto, Chelsea, Inter Milan, Real Madrid and Manchester United.

However, the 58-year-old insists that the 2020-21 League Cup counts as half.

In an interview with James Corden for The Sun, Mourinho said: “James, if you want to be proactive you can ask me how many trophies I have won in my career – 25 and a half.

Asked about the half, he said: “The half is the final I didn’t play with Tottenham.”

Mourinho explained he would have loved to manage the final so he could “have a chance to win a trophy with a club that doesn’t have many, that was a dream”.

And some Spurs fans very much agreed with Mourinho’s sentiments.
