West Ham United defender Max Kilman has come under unexpected criticism from Guardian journalist Jacob Steinberg, despite his impressive performances since joining the Hammers in the summer.
Kilman, who arrived at West Ham for around £40 million, was a highly sought-after signing by head coach Julen Lopetegui, who previously managed the defender at Wolverhampton Wanderers. While Lopetegui faced criticism for the deal at the time, Kilman has since proven himself as a vital addition to the squad. There was even speculation that Lopetegui considered making Kilman the club captain before the armband was eventually given to Jarrod Bowen.
Kilman has quickly become a fan favorite at the London Stadium, with many praising his faultless displays and commanding presence in defense. Despite his strong start to the season, Jacob Steinberg took to social media platform X (formerly Twitter) to criticize the defender following West Ham’s recent draw against Fulham.
“West Ham and Kilman get away with one at Craven Cottage. Little evidence that Lopetegui’s ideas are working yet. Outplayed by Fulham today and lucky to draw,” Steinberg posted.
