Journalist Ryan Taylor believes West Ham ‘big money’ summer signing was a ‘wrong’ decision

According to Ryan Taylor, a journalist at the Daily Express, West Ham United’s hopes of avoiding relegation from the Premier League this season have been hampered by their transfer business, writes the GMS.

Despite spending over £170 million on new players, the Hammers could still find themselves playing in the Championship next season. One of their most expensive signings, Lucas Paquetá, joined from Lyon for a record-breaking fee of £51 million and signed a five-year deal with the club. However, the Brazilian midfielder has yet to meet the high expectations placed on him.

Despite playing in 28 matches across all competitions for West Ham this season, Paquetá’s performances have not received much attention. He has had ample game time, but according to WhoScored’s ratings, he has an average match rating of 6.80, indicating that he has plenty of room for improvement.

The underperformance of summer signings has been a recurring issue for West Ham this season, and Gianluca Scamacca is another new player who has failed to live up to expectations.

Daily Express journalist Ryan Taylor suggested that West Ham’s signings this season may not have been suitable for their squad during a recent interview with GIVEMESPORT. Taylor hinted that the club may have made the wrong choices in their recruitment strategy.

He commented on West Ham’s transfer business, saying, “I feel like West Ham have made the wrong signings. Lucas Paquetá is a great player, but I never saw him being a big hitter at West Ham, to be honest. I don’t feel like he really suits what they’re trying to do. I feel like West Ham are better off signing top Championship players instead.”
