Kurt Zouma – ‘I told him he would never score here…’

After Nayef Aguerd scored an impressive goal, Kurt Zouma expressed his belief that nobody in the team deserved it more than his good friend, as relays the C&H.

Since Aguerd joined West Ham, the two have become close and the team’s defense benefits greatly from their partnership. Zouma was thrilled that they managed to keep a clean sheet and Aguerd’s goal was the cherry on top. Aguerd’s goal came in the 25th minute off a free-kick from Thilo Kehrer, propelling the Irons out of the bottom three and maintaining their unbeaten home record in 2023.

Zouma playfully teased Aguerd by saying he would never score, but was genuinely happy for his mate and acknowledged his strong performances since returning from injury. He hopes that other players will be inspired by Aguerd’s goal and score in the upcoming games.

“It’s a very good header from Nayef. I tried to get on his nerves a bit yesterday (Saturday) by saying: ‘he will never score here’ but I am very happy for him!

“Nayef deserves it. He has been playing well since he came back from injury. And hopefully, other players will [take inspiration from him] and score in the next game.”

“Since Nayef joined, I have tried to help him because he did not know England very well,” Zouma stated. “But I think he has settled in very well, we are like a family here and we all help each other as much as possible.”
