Manchester City suddenly put a £70m bid on the table for West Ham star

Reports are emerging that Manchester City has tabled an offer of £70 million for West Ham’s attacking midfielder, Lucas Paqueta, relays the F365. While the bid is deemed substantial, it is anticipated that West Ham is likely to reject the proposal, seeking a higher valuation for their standout performer.

Lucas Paqueta, a Brazil international, showcased his football prowess in the previous season, making significant contributions to West Ham’s success. With four goals and three assists in 28 Premier League matches, Paqueta played a pivotal role in helping his team secure victories. Additionally, his contributions extended to the Europa Conference League triumph, further solidifying his importance within David Moyes’ squad.

The midfielder’s impressive performances have garnered the attention of Manchester City’s manager, Pep Guardiola, and their recruitment team. As City grapples with the potential loss of players like Riyad Mahrez or Bernardo Silva, the club is actively seeking a skilled attacking player to bolster their ranks. According to Brazilian outlet Globo, Man City has submitted a substantial bid of £70 million for Paqueta’s services.

While West Ham is yet to formally respond to the offer, it is widely expected that the club will reject the bid, aiming for a higher fee in recognition of Paqueta’s value. The Hammers are determined to secure an advantageous deal in case they consider the possibility of a sale for the former Flamengo star.

Guardiola’s interest in Paqueta is not a recent development. In fact, his admiration for the player dates back to last summer when the Spaniard had identified Paqueta as a potential option before his move to West Ham. Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has also weighed in on the situation, confirming discussions between Manchester City and West Ham this week.

Romano stated in his Caught Offside column, “Manchester City have concrete interest in Lucas Paquetá. Talks took place with West Ham this week. Not an easy negotiation but City have added him to summer targets list.”

West Ham is keen to make strategic use of the funds acquired from the Declan Rice transfer. The club is currently pursuing the signing of Southampton midfielder James Ward-Prowse for an approximate fee of £32 million. However, former Arsenal midfielder Paul Merson has expressed his opinion that Ward-Prowse might be better off remaining with Southampton and contributing to their quest for promotion from the Championship.

Merson noted on Sky Sports Soccer Saturday, “You’re gonna go to West Ham, you’re talking about West Ham you’re not going to one of the top six. You go to West Ham you’re working on scraps. I mean you stay there, it’s a lovely season you’re winning every week everybody likes a winning team.”

As negotiations unfold and clubs strategize their summer transfer moves, the future of players like Lucas Paqueta and James Ward-Prowse continues to be a topic of interest among football enthusiasts.
