New Everton owner Dan Friedkin is reportedly considering former Lazio and Juventus manager Maurizio Sarri as the Toffees’ next head coach, according to Il Corriere dello Sport.
Friedkin, who announced his takeover of Everton earlier this week, is looking to make swift changes at Goodison Park, with the team currently sitting 19th in the Premier League table. The American billionaire appears eager to bring in Sarri, a seasoned Italian tactician with an impressive resume that includes a 2019 Europa League victory with Chelsea.
Sarri, who resigned from Lazio in March 2023, has been out of management since but recently expressed his desire to return to coaching by January. He noted that he is waiting for the right project, which could align with Everton’s current need for an experienced leader.
In addition to Sarri, Il Corriere dello Sport reports that fitness coach Daniele Tognaccini may also join the Everton staff. Tognaccini, who worked with Sarri at Juventus, is a highly respected figure in Italian football and was instrumental in founding MilanLab, AC Milan’s advanced sports science facility, in the 1990s.
If the move goes through, Sarri and Tognaccini would be tasked with steering Everton away from the relegation zone and rebuilding the squad’s fortunes under Friedkin’s ownership.
