Christian Pulisic’s Instagram message yesterday shared the Chelsea attacker extremely frustrated with his latest appearance, writes the Chelsea Chronicle.
Pulisic, who earns £150,000-a-week, uploaded a post on Friday reacting to Thursday night’s 1-1 draw between Chelsea and Leicester City at Stamford Bridge.
It ended all square in the penultimate fixture of the Premier League season, with Thomas Tuchel’s side wrapping up their campaign this Sunday at home to Watford.
The Blues dominated large spells of the game against Leicester, but it was a similar problem for them of not being clinical in attack.
Pulisic has admitted his own individual display was below par this week.
The 23-year-old attacker started a third consecutive league match, something that’s not happened frequently this campaign.
However, the American forward missed an absolutely golden chance to score from close-range. Even Blues manager Tuchel was critical afterwards of Pulisic hitting his shot wide from inside the penalty box.
In fairness, Pulisic’s shown a lot of heart by sending a message on social media to criticise his own performance. He says it was “not good enough” from him in midweek.
If you ask players in the Chelsea squad if they’re happy with their goal return this season, you’d suspect most would say no.
Romelu Lukaku’s 15-goal return across all competitions has fallen short of expectations following his big return last summer.
In addition, Timo Werner (11), Pulisic (8), Hakim Ziyech (7), will be players to show further disappointment.
In contrast, Mason Mount and Kai Havertz can take some pride with their 13 goals apiece.
